The latter is a new weapon for the series, and it utilizes lightning-like attacks to take out enemies. As always, the Line Gun and its proximity mines proved an immensely satisfying way to dismember the Necromorphs, while the flamethrower and Arc Welder proved better at handling multiple opponents at once. The various weapons work differently, too. Drop-in/drop-out co-op play is also supported, and the game will dynamically adjust its difficulty when a player enters or leaves play on the fly. Players can choose branching progression paths, which allow them to take different routes, and new modes will be unlocked in each level after they've been completed. While the basic premise of a rail shooter is maintained in Extraction, the game's mechanics make it a deeper title. Granted, the graphics don't quite compare to the texture and detail of other home consoles, but they still look quite impressive characters look particularly good, thanks to some realistic movement and fantastic facial expressions. It should be noted that the game doesn't actually look like a Wii title: the visual style of Extraction is very much in keeping with the original Dead Space. From there, players have to travel through the the Ishimura and will actually observe a number of events from both the movie and comic as they occur. The story starts off with players evacuating from the planet to the supposed safety of the Ishimura, with the Ishimura firing on the shuttle because the evacuees won't take "no" for an answer. Players assume the role of detective Nathan McNiel or Ishimura security officer Gabe Weller. The game is set around the time of the comic book and film, and will feature events from both. At EA's E3 booth, Dead Space Extraction is on display, and while the game is technically a rail shooter, it seems like a strong addition to the series that helps further out the universe's backstory. Dead Space is one of those games that blew us away from get-go, and most of its tie-ins were impressive, too, (aside from a certain animated movie).
